The Intensive Care Foundation’s vision is to provide excellence in intensive care. Our ultimate aim is to advance the quality of life, treatment outcomes, and survival rates for those in intensive care, saving more lives across Australia and New Zealand.

The Foundation provides grants for research, education, and professional development for ICU health professionals across both countries and raises awareness of intensive care throughout the community.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) is to improve outcomes for critically ill patients by funding high quality research and supporting the education of ICU professionals. Through grants for early career researchers and educators, the ICF focuses on enhancing survival rates, improving the standards of care and improving patients' quality of life post ICU across Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, the ICF seeks to raise community awareness about critical care and provide valuable resources for ICU patients and their families, helping them understand and navigate the intensive care experience.

Our History

In the late 1950’s the unique demand for intensive care in Australia and New Zealand underscored the need for ongoing research, professional collaboration, and specialised training in critical care. Several specialist Intensive care societies and training facilities were then created ultimately leading to the forming of the Intensive Care Foundation in 1990.
